About our Dog Trainers

Mike Bullock

trainer1Mike began working dogs as a young boy, competing in field trial hunting dog events as a hobby. In 1984, Mike joined the U.S. Air Force. He went on to March AFB and continued his training knowledge. He has trained with some of Europe’s finest KNPV, and Schutzhund trainers. He has maintained a DEA registered kennel since 1989. Many states recognize Mike as a court expert in police K-9 training and tactics. CourtTV had Mike as an expert guest in 1992.  He recently held a seat on the board of directors, with Drug Beat, only resigning to assume the responsibilities of Vice President, of  the American Working Dog Association. Mike has trained numerous canines, all over the world, and is one of the very few able to certify arson K-9s, as well as, patrol, narcotics, bed bug and explosives detection. His ability to work with departments has given him a special insight into the world of drug interdiction and vehicle concealment techniques in current use on our Nations interstates and highways. Of the hundreds of K-9 teams trained at Bullocks K-9 Kennels & Training, the vast majority go on to certify with organizations such as NAPWDA, USPCA, NNDDA, AWDA. Mikes commitment for canine excellence has made him a leader in canine quality and training standards.

Mary Schatz

trainer_maryI started my canine career at Bullock’s K-9 in 1999 under Master Trainer Mike Bullock. I learned basic obedience, tracking and narcotics detection. I worked under Mike for 4 years and then I moved to Virginia and continued my canine training for the general public teaching basic obedience for 4 years. I returned to Bullock’s K-9 in 2010 and continued training basic obedience for the general public and helped with the police dog training including tracking, narcotic detection, explosives detection. I have a passion for scent work and enjoy working with all the new officers that come through our classes.

Richard Thomason

trainer_richardI began training dogs for my family’s dog training business at the age of twelve. Over the years I have developed an acute ability to evaluate and rehabilitate dogs with behavior problems. Those skills proved invaluable once I began Schutzhund training as a young adult. Since that time I have had the opportunity to work with some of the best Schutzhund trainers in the USA and Europe men like Alex Byer where a great influence.  I have also worked as a Schutzhund helper at both local and regional Schutzhund trails. In my  early 20’s I began training working dogs, with Randy Hare learning scent detection. My area of skill includes but is not limited to patrol, tracking and detection dogs. I have  been a valued member of the Bullock training team since 2010.
